The CBSD system is a central control system in DALI communications that includes an emergency lighting electrical backup central system which operates in accordance with the requirements of standard EN-50171.

The central electrical backup system provides a sinusoidal voltage of 230V 50Hz.

The central control system enables individual control of the emergency lighting fixtures in DALI communication and through the unique software it is possible to operate each emergency lighting fixture in a single-purpose or dual-purpose regime, as well as determining full or dimmed lighting intensity in normal or emergency conditions.

The central control system includes an integral single/three-phase “interchange” unit that enables to detect failures in the power supply and the lighting of emergency lighting fixtures in a period of time not exceeding 0.5 seconds.

It offers a 60 minutes emergency operation time or any time depending on client’s requirement.

The central control system enables individual control of each emergency lighting fixture, including monitoring and receiving a fault indication in the power cables, a disconnected lighting fixture, a faulty bulb, etc.

Entering lighting fixtures from two different sources:

In accordance with regulatory requirements, emergency lighting fixtures, along the escape route, will be fed from two separate supply circuits and separate electrical backup systems and in the event of a power failure, local or general, all emergency lighting will be activated along a given escape route.

The implementation of the regulatory requirement, to illuminate all emergency lighting fixtures in a given escape route, is made possible thanks to the synchronization interfaces installed in each control system and enabling the automatic activation of emergency lighting fixtures connected to the electrical backup systems installed in remote rooms.

The control system is operated using a dedicated controller and four DALI communication channels, which enable individual control and monitoring of 246 emergency lighting fixtures (160 lighting fixtures, standard and expandable according to project requirements). Emergency lighting fixtures receive unique DALI addresses from the control system for individual control and monitoring.

Dedicated management software, installed in an integrated PC computer dedicated for the system, enables the display of emergency lighting data including a registration index, the lighting fixtures’ physical location, fault indication, setting a schedule for performing health checks, etc. The PC computer includes a TCP/IP communication interface used to communicate with the facility’s central controller, if any.

The control system performs normal tests, automatically, for the emergency lighting and receives an individual indication from each emergency lighting fixture, such as: a faulty bulb, disconnection of the lighting fixture, and faults originated in the power system and/or the communication cables.

All faults are recorded in the management software and sent to the facility’s central controller.

Emergency lighting automatic integrity tests:

Infrastructure integrity – the system continuously checks the integrity of the electrical connection and communication between the electrical room and the emergency lighting fixtures, and if a disconnection is detected, the system immediately reports to the management software.

Electrical backup central system integrity – the system continuously performs integrity tests for the converter and the charger, and if a failure is detected, the system immediately reports to the management software.

Functional integrity check – Once a week (or at any period determined by the customer) the system will operate the emergency lighting fixtures for up to 10 minutes (depending on the type of lighting fixtures, LED or fluorescent) and check their functional integrity and if a failure is detected, the system immediately reports to the management software.

In order to maintain the emergency lighting’s operation, these tests will be performed in accordance with the rules, schedule and groups of lighting fixtures, which will be determined in advance planning in accordance with the requirements of standard EN50171.

Duration of operation test – once a year (or at any period determined by the customer), the system will operate the emergency lighting fixtures for a period of time as planned for the emergency facility and check the batteries’ integrity. In order to maintain the emergency lighting’s operation, this test will be performed in two stages and at different times, so that each time 50% of the lighting fixtures are activated with 50% of the total batteries and if a failure is detected, the system will immediately report to the management software, according to rules, schedules, lighting fixture groups and batteries, to be determined in advance in accordance with the requirements of standard EN50171.

System’s additional benefits:

  • The system allows the implementation of single/dual-purpose emergency lighting with any lighting fixture used in the facility and its adaptation to TI 20 Part 2.22 (performed by Eneltec).

Additional flexibility is available by adding a “switch” unit for each fixture or for a fixtures group during the installation.

  • Flexibility in determining the working regime of the lighting fixtures: The system allows the lighting fixtures, in whole or in part, to be operated in a single-purpose or dual-purpose manner at any lighting intensity required by the customer, such as security measures at the facility, etc.
  • Wired DALI communication with a high level of reliability, which allows communication at ranges of up to 300 meters in a star connection, an option for a range of up to 600 meters with the addition of a dedicated DALI line amplifier.
  • Implementation of wireless communication between the lighting fixtures and the central control system.
  • Manual button for performing normal tests manually in accordance with the requirements of standard EN50171.
